friday night lights

Well, it's Friday night but High School is over (for us) and the football game days are behind us. I miss the flood lights and sitting behind the popular kids with my popular friend... who is now my business partner, Emily. Just to hang out in her world was such a thrill! I felt like such a dork.

If you're going out tonight and getting ready with your girlfriends, try this playlist to remind of those days getting ready for the game...

dreamer

I have been happy, tho' in a dream.
I have been happy- and I love the theme:
Dreams! in their vivid coloring of life,
As in that fleeting, shadowy, misty strife
Of semblance with reality, which brings
To the delirious eye, more lovely things
Of Paradise and Love- and all our own!
Than young Hope in his sunniest hour hath known.

If your eyes could taste

A lot of my inspiration for WildFox comes from my favorite author, Francesca Lia Block. Reading her words is a truly magical experience. I recommend the book "Dangerous Angels" to start with. You will never read something this beautiful.

http://www.francescaliablock.com

quotes:

"My pain is ugly angel juan. I feel like I have so much ugly pain," says witch baby in a dream. "Everyone does," Angel Juan says. "my mother says that pain is hidden in everyone you see. She says try to imagine it like big bunches of flowers that everyone is carrying around with them. Think of your pain like a big bunch of red roses, a beautiful thorn necklace. Everyone has one."

"Why is this place called Los Angeles?" Witch baby asked. "There aren't any angels." "Maybe there are. Sometimes I see angels in the people I love," said Weetzie. "What do angels look like?" "They have wings and carry lilies," Cherokee said. "And they have blonde hair," she added, tossing her braids. "Clutch pig!" Said Witch Baby under her breath. She tugged at her own dark tangles. "No, Cherokee," said Weetzie. "That's just in some old paintings. Angels can look like anyone. They can look like mysterious, beautiful, purple eyed girls."

"Weetzie's HEART Felt so full with Love, SO FULL as if it could hardly fit in her chest. She knew they were all afraid. BUT Love and disease are both like ELECTRICITY Weetzie thought. They are always there- you cant see or smell or hear or touch or taste them, but you know they are there. like a current in the air. We can choose, weetzie thought, we can choose to plug into the love current
instead. I dont know about HAPPILY EVER AFTER... But I know about happily Weetzie bat thought."

REVIEWS
"Transcendent."
—The New York Times Book Review

"A poetic series of books celebrating love, art, and the imagination, all in hyper-lyrical language.... Tenderly intoxicating."
—Spin

"Lyrical, resonant fables, which always point back to the primacy of family, friends, love, location, food and music. At once modern and mythic, her series deserves as much space as it can command of daydream nation's shrinking bookshelves."
—The Village Voice

"[Block's] extravagantly imaginative setting and finely honed perspectives remind the reader that there is magic everywhere."
—Publishers Weekly

let us entertain you:

BONJOUR!!

At the moment the office is the temperature of a glacier and i am gazing at my diet pepsi in its fancy wine glass and eating pretzels. We are playing sappy love ballads and making Monday a little more exciting than usual.

Ever since Santa Barbara theater camp Kim and I have been pretty obsessed with self directed photo shoots ...of ourselves...luckily capturing our classy fashion trends of the times (in the Nordstrom dressing room).

90'sssss.

I have just found out that Chanel made a BEACHBALLLL!!!!!! HOW CAN I GET THIS??? honestly this is the highest priority on earth.

CALIFORNIA, CALIFORNIA , HERE WE COOOMMMMMMEEEEE.
can't get that song outta my head.

i wish i was a famous debutante and dressed in over the top golden dresses every day and ran around my marble mansion getting horses and hiring Paul Simon to come play in my backyard for a Royal BBQ. ...someday.

P.S.
we sent Vogue some little gifts from the Fall and Summer line and Jane sent us a letter back! We love her. How sweet. Bonjour Jane!

just one more to leave you thinking about FALL!!!

AU REVIOR!!!

Gloom and rain inspire me best

Emily has started playing rain sounds at the office to create an inspirational environment. This is the due to the lack of seasonal weather in Los Angeles... everyone loves to get in their wellies and go slopping through the mud but we usually have to go out of town for that. Here is last year, gloomy day in Silverlake near the office. Magic.

This recipe pairs omega-3-rich tuna with ginger. Both have anti-inflammatory properties that can help fend off disease and support healthy aging. The sauce on this dish is a perfect foil for sesame-coated tuna steaks. Per serving: 705 calories; 99 g protein; 30 g fat; 7 g carb; 3 g fiber

Ingredients

Serves 4

  • 1 medium carrot (2 ounces), peeled and coarsely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh peeled ginger (about a 2-inch piece)
  • 2 scallions, thinly sliced (white and green parts separated)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon tamari or soy sauce
  • 4 tablespoons canola oil, divided
  • Coarse salt
  • 1/2 cup sesame seeds, preferably mixed black and white
  • 4 tuna steaks (each 6 to 8 ounces)

Directions

  1. In a blender, combine carrot, ginger, scallion whites, vinegar, sesame oil, tamari, 3 tablespoons canola oil, and 1 tablespoon water. Blend until smooth, scraping down sides of blender jar as necessary (add up to 1 tablespoon more water, if necessary, to adjust consistency). Season with salt.
  2. Place sesame seeds on a rimmed plate. Season tuna steaks with salt, then press both sides of the steaks into seeds to coat.
  3. Heat remaining tablespoon canola oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook fish in skillet 1 to 2 minutes per side for medium-rare (if steaks are particularly large, cook them in two batches).
  4. Serve fish topped with sauce and sprinkled with reserved scallion greens.

Feeling so trendy

At first, fall doesn't sound very fun. But then you realize just how many fun things you can do and wear in fall that you wouldn't in summer. Also you get to see all the new trends emerging and restocking your closet to try and match the magazine ads. My favorite trends for fall are beanies, over sized trench coats, ripped and patterned black tights, dorky glasses, and animal accessories (animal hats, masks, ears fun fun fun!)

Hopefully it rains here soon. Rain in LA is magical. Another night at the ye rustic inn tonight, after returning from a very overcast Santa Barbara.
XOXO
Kimberley
